Young Chefs Academy

This hands-on youth enrichment program was created to introduce children and teens across Robeson County to culinary arts, healthy living, creativity, teamwork, and important life skills in a fun and empowering environment. Through cooking experiences and mentorship, students build confidence, responsibility, communication skills, and leadership while learning the value of discipline and collaboration.

Although Young Chefs Academy was impacted by the pandemic, we are coming back better than before, and I could not be more excited about what’s ahead for our youth!

This program is designed to provide a safe, positive, and engaging atmosphere where students can connect, learn, and grow while creating unforgettable memories and experiences that inspire them to dream bigger and believe in their potential.

Young Chefs Academy

The Young Chefs Academy was a beginner-level youth enrichment program developed through U.N.I.T.E. Education Foundation as part of its Health and Welfare Initiative. The program was implemented in partnership with the local Housing Authority, Pastor Anderson, Chef Enj Anderson, and community collaborator Mrs. Shelby Foy.

The Academy was designed to introduce children to foundational culinary skills while promoting healthy lifestyle habits, character development, and positive social engagement. The program consisted of four instructional sessions held once per month during the fall, making it accessible and developmentally appropriate for young learners.

Participants received hands-on instruction in basic measurement skills, healthy cooking options, beginner culinary practices, food safety awareness, and the art of presentation, including proper table setting and dining etiquette. Each session intentionally integrated character-building lessons and short prayer moments, reinforcing values such as responsibility, teamwork, gratitude, and self-discipline.

To support overall wellness, each session also included a light, age-appropriate Zumba-style movement activity to encourage physical activity and healthy habits in a fun and engaging way.

The Young Chefs Academy successfully combined nutrition education, life skills, physical movement, and character development, offering a holistic learning experience that aligned with UNITE’s mission to educate, empower, and transform lives through community-based programming.
