A brief history
Our History
This organization was founded August 2020 in Lumberton, NC. The movement started when a Robeson county native, Carlena Smith, noticed a great disparity in the resources that better funded communities had.
Smith, determined to make a change in her community, took a role as an educator. Although being able to directly inspire and mold the minds of youth was fulfilling, Smith understood the reality of the community that they come from.
She begin to understand you can not fully impact the community with out impacting the individual families that make up the community. Helping the parents directly impacts the kids. Since children learn more from their parents than they will from any other adult.
Smith decided that the best way to fully help children is to help parents. UNITE was designed to educate & empower people to be self-sufficient. We will also provide coaching & resources to help make the process smoother. UNITE will also have programs in place to expose the children to additional resources.
The children are the future. If we do not give them all the tools to have success, then we can not expect change.
We are currently raising money to offer tutoring scholarships.
